Public Folder Size

I have Exchange 5.5 on NT 4 sp6

The size of my pub.edb file is around 17 GB. However, when I calculate the folder size in Outlook the entire Public Folders is only around 2GB.

If the pub.edb file represents the public folders where is the additional 15GB. Is there anyway to decrease this file size?

ESEUTIL. Run the defrag offline....

that defrag will not change the size that is reported to you it will just compact the pub. what version of exchange 5.5 are you running? I know the standard version only allows around 16 gig size for the message store, but enterprise allows unlimited.
