I have a single Exchange server running Exchange 2003 where all servers are 2003 R2 in Native mode. I am trying to set permissions on a Calender Public folder. I have created a Distribution Group - Universal and put all the users in that group.

Within Outlook I set that group as Author. However when those users attempt to access the Calender under Public Folders it reads "Unable to read folder". However when I add those users specifically and give them Author, everything works fine.

I changed the default permissions because by default only certain people should be able to see the contents of this Calender. The current Permissions are;

Default - None
Anonymous - None
DG - Universal - Author
DG1 - Universal - Reviewer

I'm not sure why the group does not set the Permissions.

Any help would be great.

After letting the permissions with just the group sit overnight and let Exchange go through the changes, everything seemed to work this morning with just the permissions of the groups.

However using pfdavadmin (which is a GREAT tool) I was able to see other issues that would have been a problem down the road. Thanks for the advice and the save.

@noveyron I couldn't use a Security Group because the public folder was not Mail Enabled.
