I have 150 3 year old Tiny PCs, and the PSUs are starting to give up. The only information on them is MODEL: PTP-2028 Made In China. I could get generic replacements, but as we are a school with limited funds, I would like to be able to repair them (I am a qualified electronics engineer). Does anyone know who the manufacturer is, or where I might get a circuit diagram from? Tiny were no help at all!

I believe you will run up against a rock on this one.
Best shot is do some reverse engineering and documenting as you go. After a dozen or so, you'll have the important stuff documented.
One problem you'll run across is the likelyhood that the manufacturer made incremental changes during the production run causing your documentation efforts to multiply.
One resource is "switching regulators & power supplies" from tab books. Out of date and all, but the concepts are there.
I suspect that you will also find some serious parts compatibility problems. Or sole source supplier problems. Ed Fair

I am not trying to discourage you but nowadays, I don't
think people would do that kind of repair anymore. I know
its no good to the enviornment but that is what the world
is now. I have seen people throwing away PSUs just becaue
the fans are not working. Another fact, the components are
not as long lasting as before and the manufacturer just don't
expect their customer to use anything more than 3 years.
(My monitor-Sony is 7 years old now and I have no intention
to throw it away and my last monitor had last for almost 11
years-Acer) Life cycle of consumer products are getting
shorter and shorter. And if your PSUs are made in China,
you can might as well forget about the repairment, it won't
be worth. You may save more if you buy a new one. Repair
at the component level is of no commerical value, you just
have to treat it as a matter of interest. I really miss the wire
wrap tools and soldering guns.

As I'm sure you know already, the trouble with switching mode PSUs is that it one component fails and that usually blows up several others with it! I have managed to successfully replace the main switching transistors for near equivalents and also the main rectifiers, but do make sure they are rated high enough - piv should be 800v minimum in my view...

You will benefit from making up a dummy load to test the repaired PSU before connecting back up to the PC.

Good luck!

ATX? or AT? probably AT.
You may have a serious problem buying them now as everything is ATX and 250watts plus,
The physical size also may be an issue as Tiny, Hewlett Packard and Compaq amongst others all had a tendencey to use non standard components in there systems, and the PSU's could be smaller than generic replacements.
If you are lucky enough to have standard power supplies in them you should be able to negociate a price below £15 per unit if you buy quantity.
Sorry I can't be of much help. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

I am an Electronics Tech doing repairs here in Australia on PC switchers. Trying to find a cct diagram is like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. I have an ATX 1123B manufactured by Enlight Corp but after repeated requests for info. they dont even bother to reply.
Just how difficult have all techs found in getting cct diagrams?

Chocky

OF course, there is also another option. If you get tired of messing with these things, have your students build this,
Then experiment with this inside of your offending PC's case!lol

Really, it's all a matter of looking around. [lookaround] I hope the info given helps you out. I think these links would provide a great resource to everybody regardless of what they are looking for. Let us know how it goes!

Oh yeah, if you decide to build what's in the link! We want pictures! [pipe] Jay [infinity]
