PST files the only way to save contacts and folder?

We run Exchange 5.5 where I work. The only way that I know to save a users contacts and personal folders is to backup the *.PST files from the local machine. It seems like their must be a better way. Am I missing something?

you can use programs like Veritas that have a special feature for Exchange 5.5 and it will backup all you Exchange 5.5 information. I am not sure if this is what you want, if not please explain more.
