Recently I upgraded to winxp at home after liking it from work. The only problem is PS7 is refusing to work on the system even after selecting it to run in compatability mode.

Directly after reinstalling it, I get the popup message

"you currently have adobe photoshop's primary scratch and windows' primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced proformance. it is recommented that you set adobe photoshop's primary scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferably on a different physical drive."

which I know can be fixed by editing the preferences. The problem is that I can't get photoshop to open so that I can get into the preferences.

Like I said, that message only comes up the first time I attempt to run the program after installing. Everytime after, photoshop will start to open but as soon as it finishes I get the popup saying

"unable to contine because of hardward or system error. sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."

Anyone know how to deal with this?

GGrrl,

Two things to try first, download and install the newest patch from Adobe and replace your preferences files. To replace the preferences files check out SPYDERIX's FAQ229-2082. The scratch disk message is just a warning and shouldn't have anything to do with the problem you're having.

Let me know if this helps, if not can you give some more computer details hardware, ram, diskspace etc.

Hi,

"unable to contine because of hardward or system error. sorry, but this error is unrecoverable."

I got that same message when I installed PS7 and the problem was due to too many fonts loaded into the system. Try reducing the number of fonts in your system and then try running photoshop.

Hope this helps!

I did the ctrl+alt+shift prompt but it still is giving me the "unable to contine because of hardward or system error. sorry, but this error is unrecoverable" message.

I also downloaded the 7.0.1 update which says it should make it compatable with winxp, but same as above, it still wont work.
