We've been putting off replacing our primary MF server for a while. Bought a new HP unit 2 months ago and tried to move the farm over but that failed, so have limped along with our original PIII 800 mhz dual core IBM chugging away... We DID upgrade to PS4 on it as part of our planned farm move.
Since then we have decided to just create a new farm on the new server and move the other, remote MF server to that farm. Put the new farm/server up this weekend. no problems encountered. Well, except one. Or two.![[noevil]](/data/assets/smilies/noevil.gif "[noevil] [noevil]")
I'll post the other one separately as they do not seem related.
The logons for the old MF server became M U C H longer as soon as we installed PS4. ( we were at PS3 previously ) We tried using the new server as a Term Services only server but found that lacking... however while using it without MF logons were quick, snappy even. Now that we have MF on it the log on time from starting the ICA client to getting to the name/PW entry point can take up to 5 min! The data lines at the office are good: two T1's bonded together. I've tried from our SoCal office, my home, and two other homes: always very slow tho it varies a bit.
Googing and searching here finds many causes of slow logons, however none found seem to focus on PS4. As this problem affected both servers ( Old one running W2K Server with all patches, new one running Server 2003 with all patches save MS antimalware ) it seems it has to be PS4.
