Hello

Our organization is currently wrestling over the decision to move all reporting onto one platform. However, he have also just made the decision to implement Peoplesoft and the question would be solved if we can figure out beforehand what is the best reporting package to go with to interface with PS.

Given the choice between Crystal and Cognos, what would everyone recommend as a reporting tool for Peoplesoft?

While they are 3rd party solutions, doesn't PS included 'canned reports' with their product? If so, what is the native format of these?

Thanks!

Crystal and SQR is included with PeopleSoft and is the most common combination. PeopleSoft does include some canned reports, but like every business there is always a need for some custom reports. As far as format well Crystal is Crystal and SQR is batch process and one can use any editor (notepade,pe) to code.

Hope this helps

We plan to use Business Objects against PeopleSoft.

Why?

Because we - v. big retailer with 500+ BO users, etc - chosen BO as our reporting solution of choice.

Crystal, Cognos, BO, whatever all need to generate / run SQL against the data. At some point you will experience performance / capacity issues. Eventually the "canned" reports will need to be enhanced or modified or completed re-worked. How will you do this?

Fine, if your already familiar with the reporting tool you plan to use. But, what if your not ?

You'll need to get down & dirty with the SQL. Understanding how your data is structured and how your SQL is generated & run is more important. And I don't think you'll want to find out your reporting solution can't do it.

Also, eventually you'll want to extract, transform & load your PeopleSoft data into something more reporter friendly... that's when you want a Data Warehouse solution.
