When I save a document with text layers, and have a layer style applied to them, when I go back and open the document, PS tells me that the text layer is not a valid text layer, and existing pixel data will be used. When the text layers have no style applied to them, they save and open just fine. Has anyone else had this happen, and how did you resolve it?

Running PS 7.0 on Mac OX 10.4.5

I don't have a true answer to your query, as I've never run across that problem before. However, if I can vent a little....You know, I've been in prepress for a long time now, and for the life of me I will never understand why Adobe continues putting a text tool in Photoshop. There are so many other applications that put lovely type with effects in a page. So my resolution to this problem is to rasterize the type, and don't use photoshop as a typing program.
Whew, thanks.

Please allow me to vent at such a silly myopic comment from Mark... [bigsmile]

I've been in prepress

Photoshop is not exclusively used by prepress artists. It is also used by video and web designers. With that said, the type tools in Photoshop are fine and can export in press ready format as PDF. Early versions of Photoshop had poor type capabilities for press as it was raster type. The latest releases of Photoshop type capabilities are great for press.

Now to answer the issue: This error may occur if Photoshop does not have access to the font file to render the type. If you are experiencing this error on the same computer that created the graphic, check to see if a font management utility has disabled the needed font. Also verify that the font file is properly installed and not corrupt.

I assume that you are saving as a PSD file.

jimoblak,

I dont think the font is the problem, because I can create the layer with the text, apply the stlye, save (yes, format is PSD), close the document, and re-open it without shutting down photoshop, and I still get the message about the layer not being a valid text layer.

That seems to do it. You have my thanks. And a star.
