Hi All

I've got a 4-port Avocent switch box with built in USB hub (USB hub is not being used). PC1 is connected to my regular desktop PC and works fine. PC2 is connected to a docking station. Because the docking station doesn't have any PS/2 connections, there's one of these between the switchbox and the docking station:

The laptop works with it perfectly fine, without any issues. And I can switch back to PC1 and use my desktop PC also. However, once I switch to the desktop PC, I can't use the switchbox anymore. Clicking on PC2, PC3 or PC4 does nothing. This isn't even over an extended period of time, it happens straight away. However, if I remove the USB adapter from the docking station, I can switch, and then I can plug it back in and it works fine.

I've tried using an Avocent SwitchView that doesn't have a built in keyboard and mouse, but that was even worse ! The laptop on the docking station kept opening up random applications over and over again.

Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this ? The USB adapter says it doesn't have any drivers. Would really appreciate any help on this

My initial guess is that it has to do with getting power over USB. Do you have an AC adapter which you can use to have power going to the switch at all times?

My next guess would be that since the USB doesn't "see" anything directly, it doesn't want to switch via the up or down arrow type of hot key. Have you tried using something like <Scroll Lock> - <Scroll Lock> - <1> or <Scroll Lock> - <Scroll Lock> - <2>?
