I am new to Tek-Tips, so I hope I am in the right forum.

This is my problem:
Some of our users like to hold on to their PS/2 keyboards and mice, but the Dell Optiplex computers we bought recently are not supplied with PS/2 ports.
Therefore we bought some PS/2 to USB adapters from ATEN.
Now I have a strange keyboard problem. Both the mouse and the keyboard are connected to the adapter and everything seems fine, unless I want to mix capital letters with lower-case letters.

If I press the Shift key for writing capital letters and I am writing too slow, there will be lower-case letters. Some of our users find this really annoying. It seems the adapter disconnects in some way when holding the Shift key down.

We have Dell Optiplex GX280 with Windows XP Pro.

I have tried ATEN's home page, nothing on this problem.
Has anyone experienced this before?

Any help would be appreciated...

PS/2 to USB adapters are strange. Some will work. and some won't. If you buy a mouse with adapter, it will work. To get an adapter off the shelf. 50-50.

There's a couple PS2 to USB adapters from Tigerdirect for only $4.99 each. You could buy both and try them out and see if either would work better for your users.
This one is a "Cables Unlimited" brand:

and this one is an "Ultra" brand:

Sorry I don't know of another way to help other than purchasing another adapter.
Hope those work for you!

There are so many keyboard choices, that finding one that was a close match to your keyboard should be possible as a pure USB keyboard.

The only exception I would make were the early IBM keyboards up to and including the PS/2 computer series. I have yet to see a better keyboard.
