I've just installed SUSE11.1 on my Dell LS400 laptop.

1) the touchpad works
2) if I plug in a USB mouse, that works too
3) if I plug a keyboard into the PS/2 port, that works

If I plug in a PS/2 mouse, it doesn't work. The thing is, the PS/2 mouse used to work on the following previous OSs installed:

DOS
Windows 98
Redhat 9
Knoppix 3
Minix
Windows XP
FreeDOS

It didn't work when I had Fedora 9 on it. When I looked up the net, I found that lots of people have had problems with the PS/2 mouse on laptops, ever since 2004. I haven't found any solutions yet. I tried Fedora 10, same problem. Now with SUSE 11.1, problem is still there. This is a triple boot machine: on XP and FreeDOS, the PS/2 mouse works.

Does anyone know how I can get a PS/2 mouse to work on a Dell LS400 laptop, either on SUSE or Fedora?

See what driver is installed for the mouse, under Yast2...

then it is trial and error in trying different mouse drivers... if none work, then switch to a USB one, and if you don't have enough ports, use a hub...

unfortunately, I can't replicate it on my laptop, due to the reason that it does not have a PS/2 port ...
