Dear All

I've just set up internet access for one of our customers. They use a proxy server, so I've set the required setting within IE. However, upon rebooting the PC the proxy server check box is cleared. Any ideas????

This happens on all PC's using various O/S, not just 95/98.

We've got policies enabled there, but there appears to be no setting that effects the proxy settings

Thanks for any ideas you have
Jackie

Which option did you use, ip address, auto detect or script? Do you get this happening if the same user logs on?

We've entered an IP address . None seems to work correctly. It happens on all users, even the same one and also administrators...

I'm probably being 'way to obvious, do you know for certain the proxy is working?

Proxy is working fine. If I recheck the box saying use proxy it works, that is until the user reboots and the check box is cleared!!

What proxy is running and can you ping the address even when you don't have the proxy set up in IE? Is the proxy on a machine the users have permissions on?

jackie,

You can check a couple registry entries:

Backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
if you see an entry named NoSaveSettings with a value of 1, right-click on it, choose modify and type in the number 0.

If that doesn't work, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel]
Change the proxy setting to the one you desire, then add the neccessary keys, then add a DWORD value named Proxy and give it a value of 1. This should make the setting "stick".
