can you please tell me how to configure a proxy server on a FreeBSD machine. The proxy settings suddenly stopped working and I have no documentation on that machine. This is pretty urgent. If u want to contribute a link to my cause - please make sure that is a good one. But I need to know it from scratch.

Thanks a lot in advance

I don't have time at the moment to give you a complete answer, but essentially you have to make sure the kernel is compiled for 'natd' (Network Address Translation daemon) or use 'ipfilter' (there is a forum for ipfilter at Tek-Tips) Do some searching for these topics at and
This makes your FreeBSD box a combination firewall and proxy server.

recompile your kernel with
options IPFIREWALL
options IPDIVERT

Instructions on how to recompile your kernel can befound at
Then edit /etc/defaults/rc.conf and set natd to yes and also setup the natd interface

You will have to edit /etc/natd.cf am example file can be found in /usr/share/examples/natd/natd.cf copy this to /etc/natd.cf and edit it to fit your configuration. be sure to change the natd port to 8668 to coincide with /etc/services.
and enable the firewall in /etc/defaults/rc.conf if you do nto want one a setting of open will do.
