Proxy question, reposted from other forum

I have a list of free anonymous proxy servers. But I can't get any of them to work. When I paste the address and port number into the LAN setting on the Connections tab, I get the message that the page cannot be displayed. I'm using Internet Explorer, Windows 98. And my ISP is a cable connection, who have told me that it should work. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

G'day, I use a proxy Server, but I have to pay for the service, and it's excellent.
