Hello helpful tek-tips contributors,

I would like to know if anyone can tell why PROXY 2.0 will not give internet acces when my ex-PDC is powered down. Months ago I promoted one of two BDC's to PDC. This old PDC machine now needs to be removed from the network.
But I have to keep it running to authenticate domain users.

Thanks in advance

If it requires authorization then you need to be authorised by the PDC.

I found out what was my problem. You were right of course.
In fact our server was in the DMZ and needed the lmhost file modified with alternate authentification servers (PDC or BDC). As it happens, I arrived on site after all but one server had been migrated, list of authentificating servers not being kept up to date, when we powered it down there were no auth.servers available.
Therefore puting the new servers in the lmhost file resolved this problem.
