Something happened to our proxy server. If we set our internet connection on any machine in our network to use proxy server, then internet explorer tries to start a download as soon as it is started. Anything local is fine, but as soon as we try to access the internet, type in for instance and it opens up a download window. If we bypass the proxy server in the internet connection settings of explorer, we can connect to the internet without a problem. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. TIA.

Hi

I think u must check the physical connections for cables.
how are they organised.

I don't think cable connections is an issue here. The problem is not intermittent, rather a situation that develops when we try to access the internet via the proxy server.

Again, when we set the workstations to use proxy server in the internet connections, when we start internet explorer it behaves as if we are attempting to download a file (with the option of open, save as window on the screen). If we set internet connection to autodetect, and remove all reference to proxy server, it works fine.

Everything is working, but would still like to find out what setting is wrong in the proxy server that keeps it from being used as it should be.

try

internet explorer>internet options>advanced tab> then check the box which says enable http 1.1 for proxies

should work :p
