I have several Proxim(Orinoco) 8420-WD cards that were sent to me as a replacement for the Agere PC24E-H-FC which is the Orinoco (Classic Gold)8410. I cannot get them to work with any access point. I've tried Dlink, an Orinoco AP-2000, and a Cisco AP1200. I thought it might have had conflicts with existing software so I've wiped out several laptops and installed fresh with no luck. I'm focused on the cards at this point because everthing else works fine with the AP's I mentioned earlier. Has anyone else had problems with these. I contacted Proxim about it but the tech I talked to was clueless. I may have to call back and ask for someone who can SPELL "wireless". ;-)

I could see issues with the D-link and Cisco, but not the Orinoco.

If these seems offensively obvious, I apologize:
. Cards set for Infrastructure and not Ad/Hoc
. 802.1x authentication disabled
. for XP clients, Hotfix Q815485 removed
. Same Channel setting, AP and adapter
. Set channel to 1 or 11 for both AP and clients.
. Test with WEP disabled, AP and clients.
. Preamble type set to Auto for the clients. For Cisco AP you need to test with a manual setting of "Short"
. If notebooks, use Device Manager to set PCMCIA Controller driver to "Microsoft Generic PCMCIA" and not the chipset specific driver.

Update - got the WD card to connect to the AP2000(Proxim AP) ONLY after upgrading the firmware to the latest release v2.4.4(WEP disabled) Will try WEP and report back...

Still no luck with any other AP. As for the setting asked about above:

I'm set for infrastructure, 802.1x disabled, no hotfix installed, card automactically scans channels looking for an AP and locked onto the AP2000 when it hit that channel. (I'll try locing it on to the cisco channel next.)
Wep disabled, preamble on Cisco set to short, using MS generic driver for pcmcia chipset...

This card is supposed to be Proxim replacement for the "Classic" gold card but the AP code specifically states that this release(2.4.4) does support that card but will in the next release. The AP even uses the "classic" card as IT's radio...go figure. I'm surprised no one else is running into this. I'd like to hear from someone even if they got it to work and it was plug and play for them. Is no one using this new card?
