When protecting(preventing changes)to a document that contains embedded files you have to mark the embedded file prior to protecting the documnet so that others can open the embedded file. There is a way to do this but I have forgotten how, any tips.
Could you please explain that again? I am not following "mark" the embedded file prior to protecting. Also, what protection are you talking about? Protecting the document from opening? Protecting it for forms? protecting it for comments?
Some more detailed information attached.
I'm talking about a word document that contains embedded files. Meaning that in the toolbar you choose Insert, then object and choose icon to attach the file, word, excel etc
depending on the file typ desired.
If the document then is protected as "read only" these inserted files/objects can not be red.
There is a way around this which I have forgotten.
So that before protecting the document as "read only" you can format the inserted objects so that they can be opened even if the document is protected as a "read only".
This is useful in MoM's that contain attachments.
Does somebody remember the way these inserted objects has to be formated in order to openable in read only documents.
In Tools > Options > Security, there is a place to save a file with read-only recommended...but this does not make the file read-only. It only recommend to the person opening it to open it as read-only. It does not require them to do so.
So, are to going in to the OS level and changing the archive bit to read-only?
