I ran 25 pair outside cable from a building to a remote campus 1000 feet away for the customer. Whenever we run outside cable, we protect it at a minimum of one end with grounded lightning protectors. The digital sets they use won't run thru the regular gas tube protectors, do I need different protectors or will they run at all with protectors?

Is there a difference in digital cards where are are designed for OPX type service and will work with protectors?

Not sure how to best do this to protect the Option 11 and the customer from lightning, underground power problems, etc.

thanks in advance
It is only my opinion, based on my experience and education...I am always willing to learn, educate me!

From what I recall, the digital sets can go as far as 3500ft using 24 awg wiring however, digital sets are more susceptible to splices, taps, bridges etc. on the line. Try wiring a digital set bypassing the protective gear and if it improves performance, chances are that you may have to go with carbon protector plugs instead of the gas. If not, you may have a defective digital card, card slot, network card ...good luck.

Actually, the best protectors for protecting the PBX and the digital sets are solid state protectors that clamp at low voltages very quickly. It has been awhile since I have seen them, but I believe they came from ONEAC.
