It is possible rather than protecting a whole worksheet just to protect individual cells or groups of cells within a worksheet instead.
 
It is not possible, but you can unlock some cells (protection tab in cell formatting). This allows to change their contents when worksheet is protected.

Actually, it is possible - but only in XP. You can protect different parts of a worksheet (even for different users)
