Hi, we have a very modest data center in a small room without any type of temperature control or humidity control. I'm looking to change this, of course. But, I'm curious where to start. Would it make sense to throw in some sort of room air conditioning, along with a dehumidifier in the summer?

Save the giggles on this one because I'm already wincing. Thank you for your help!

Space travel's in my blood.

You won't need a dehumidifier if you have an air-con unit. Depending on how business critical the servers are you should really have two air-con units for redundancy, we've had several air-con unit failures where I work and it would have been a nightmare without our redundancy (we have 3 units 2 of which are needed at any time to keep the temp down to 20c).

I think a good place to start is to get record/monitoring hardware to see if standard office temp control is enough.

I would talk to your local HVAC tech (if you have one) they would know what you need.. how to do it...

At my site we ended up installing a good sized AC... our backup is $20 lowes fans.... (we have never had a failure)

We do not currently have a dehumidifier .. but if the future is anything like last summer I'm sure we will be getting one... (even with our current ac setup)
