I am doing some research on how our company should configure our Project Server and Sharepoint servers.
Our network engineer wants to move our Sharepoint server to the same server that the Project Server is on. I am a programmer, and I would like to find reasons for having our company keep Sharepoint and Project Server on separate servers.
At the moment, I don't know what version the Project Server is. I'm assuming that it is the latest non-Beta version. In addition, I think we have Sharepoint 2007. At least, both the Sharepoint and Project Server applications are storing their data on our SQL 2005 server.
I've done some preliminary research, and it seems that network engineers will put Sharepoint on the same server as the Project Server only for temporary situations. I would like to make the argument that it is not a good long-term strategy to keep Sharepoint on the same server as our Project Server.
Here's what i've found so far:
"...Although you may not think it is likely, there are occasions where Project Server 2003 must coexist with SharePoint Portal Server 2003. Project Server must be carefully configured to operate successfully on the same server that has SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installed..."
"...please find below the sequence to install a mixed Project Server 2003 & Project Server 2007 environment on the same server typically used for testing/merging data during a migration process..."
Does anyone have any ideas about the long-term strategy of keeping Sharepoint and Project Server on the same server, versus using separate servers for both? Thanks.
