I've run networks where Linux was the only file server very nicely. The only real downside is Linux not being about to act as a PDC, but I didn't care as we didn't really use that many of the windows services, just needed the file server.
Yea, we have a test server running SAMBA, but not really playing with it. We use a login scripts through AD. That should not make much of a difference I gather.
Also how does Home directories that AD makes work with it??
