Properties file? 1

Hi,
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I want to use a properties file or something like it to store application information, like whether or not a background color is selected, and read it when the application starts to know what user defined settings are set to. Can anyone point me to a tutorial or something that would demonstrate this?
