I am setting up a Partner Messging R7.0 in a 5-slot carrier with Partner R7.0. Are there a limitation on having Partner Messaging only in slot 4 or 5?

I remember something about mail having to be on the right of the processor in an early training class. This was back when Partner R3.0 and Partner Mail 5.0 were being sold. I cannot find any notes right now, and Partner Messaging documentation is, as always, sparse on specifics.

Thanks,
Frank

It should be in the last "active" slot - so if you have the ACS in the center slot, the VM goes in slot 1, the far left. If you had, say, a 308 in slot 1, VM would go in slot 2.

It would work if you reversed the 308 and VM in the example above, BUT, your extensions would jump from 18 on the ACS to 25 as the 1st port on the 308, leaving a "hole" in your dial plan.

I've noticed when you put the VM module in the slot to the left of the processor, it will produce static on line one on several phones.
I always put VM to the right of the processor to prevent this or in the first slot if no other cards are installed.

You can try putting it on the left but if you get static on lines later, move it to the right.

You can't install it to the right of the processor, if there are not modules in the 1st and 2nd slots. Sometimes they may power up and appear to work, but it is not correct positioning, and will cause other troubles down the road.
