I would like to know the proper way to cite an MCP on a resume and perhaps what section of the resume you cite it on. Also if you are pursuing the full certification, do you cite that as well. Forgive me if this is a repeat post.

Short answer, "It depends."

Longer answer:

1. Resumes should never be generic. Actually this should be carved in stone somewhere...

2. To find out what type of job you should be trying to find, you need to really get to know yourself in the way that employers look at you. In order to find your ideal job, you really should look up Jeffrey Fox's book Don't Send A Resume. The Fox and Company website has additional tools.

3. You also need to get a good idea of what you *really* want to do. Don't laugh, it's not that easy! Dick Bolles' book What Color Is Your Parachute? is the best for this.

4. Microsoft doesn't care as long as you use the right logo

I agree with jtb in that it depends on where you put it in your resume. Having more than a couple certs I'd probably have a section listing my certifications if I thought they were all relevant to the job I'm applying for. You could probably also put it in a section listing your skills or accomplishments. For certs you're working on you might be better off putting that in the cover letter, if it pertains to the job you're applying for. I did this recently because I didn't have the cert their ad said was required but was only an exam or two away from getting it. Of course, I haven't heard back about that job yet...

I just put a section with IT certifications as a header and then list my certs there.

I do not think a full blown explanation is necessary on what each cert means as you could explain that in the interview.
