I am attempting to add authentication to sendmail server. I have compiled sasl and recompiled sendmail with support for it. EHLO from telnet responds with "250-AUTH DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN". I created a user with saslpasswd2. and have done everything else I can think of. All relayed mail is rejected with "... Relaying denied. Proper authentication required." Does anybody have any ideas?

More info:
Our users cannot send mail through outlook, outlook express, thunderbird, but they can receive. When they attempt to send, a dialog box asking for username and password pops up, and neither the users or sasls username/password work.

You have configured sendmail to use smtp_auth. This will require the smtp server to ask for a user name/password combo. That is why you get the dialog box. You need to tell outlook to send it to the server. This is how that's done: Open Outlook and click on "Tools" in the tool bar. Click on "Accounts". Highlight the account you want to edit and click on "Properties". Click on the "Servers" tab. Check the box that says "My server requires authentication". Then click settings. Fill in the information. If you want to use the same user/password as the pop3 server, then click on that option.
