Promptex date parameter passing not YYYY/MM/DD format?

I use promptex of ColdFusion to call the report, and to
pass the parameters. When I pass a date parameter (it happens a range of dates parameter), Crystal is not consistent as to the format of date it expects to accept. I have read that format passed to Crystal (that is to
promptex) should be in

YYYY/MM/DD.

But this is not always the case --sometimes it expects

YYYY/DD/MM.

One report may expect YYYY/MM/DD and other report expects YYYY/DD/MM, and please note these reports reside in one machine/server.
