I am aware of the Nortel voice mails prompting users to change their passwords after a period of time for security. However this can become annoying for some people who allready have so many passwords to remember. Is there any way to remove this feature? Thanks in advance. Dave

You need to check out the Class of Service on the Mail Boxes.

So in the Class Of Service you can conrol if a mailbox password needs to be change?Iuse COS 1 usually, do I need to use something like COS 7 or is there a way I can modify COS 1 to not ask for the password change. As a matter of fact I have never modified Class of Service, I believe I have heard about it being done! If so, does anyone know how to modify a Class Of Service. Can you do it using the Feat. 983 programming? or other way? Thanks again.

Feature 983 put in password press MBOX then press 1 it will read COS: put in the number of the Clas of service on the Mail Box then just step thru it till yuo get to Pswd Exr: enter 0 or however many days you want.

You can also change COS through the online browser based menu.

All COS come with password expiry. Must change to your preference..

After reading some other threads it seems that some of the older software on the voicemails ( pre 4.0 on the NAM and ?? on the Flash ) you can't put a 0 in the password expirey field. 0 = never ask to change password. I have not been on site yet to change the cp 150. So I cant confirm if it will work. I imagine it should work. I have a feeling that I have spent far to much time with customers who are prompted to change a password, then changed it and forgot it. Then called me to have it reset. It would only make sense that Nortel has fixed the voicemails so you don't have this problem. Thanks all for the input. Dave.

the password is a security feature ...
you need to change the locks if a roommate walks out on you angry !!

there are lots of posts ... losing money in hacked systems.
you can explain this to the customer .. and train a person to reset passwords ...

Training a customer is easy, but it is also easy for them to forget their training!! aswell some of them find a way to reset the admin. password too, creating a second problem to reset. Since most people don't use outdial, and facing these problems are a hassel, from now on I am going to Toll Restrict the VM ports and "None" to outdial. (preventing LD hacking)and put a "0" in reset password COS. This will certinally eliminate those unnessary calls. I am sure other installers surely are doing the same. Thanks for all the input. Dave

I use this on my CP. I set class 1 to never expire. I also set class 7(system admin mailbox) to never expire. When we do new installs if the customer wants we set this up for them too. We make sure to tell them not to use an easy password like the ext or 1111. If you pick a good password you can remember, it sucks to have to change it every 90 days.

In the past on our NAM, I would reset to 0000 and then change it back to the old password whenever it asked for new password.

Change number of days to expire to 0 in COS to disable password expiry.
This has worked since 3.0.
However it has only become easy to do since 4.1 and CallPilot.
In the old days you needed a serial connection into the NAM.

Pre 4.1. 1:What type of software do you use to connect? (I use Procomm Plus or Hyperterminal on other systems) 2: Is the default speed 9600 N81?? 3: Use a null modem or strait cable??? 4:Are the menus easy to work with or do you need additional Info??? Thanks. Dave

Norstar Voice Mail Manager 3 is used for 3.0A but you require a keycode from Nortel to activate the feature on this release.

Norstar Voice Mail Manager 3 is used for 3.0B and no keycode from Nortel is required to activate the feature on this release.

Norstar Voice Mail Manager 4 is used for 4.0 and 4.1 and no keycode is required to activate.

Prior to 3.0 terminal software was used; I do not remember the old passwords or procedure.

I followed DTones instructions and it didn't work. I tried Feat 983 1020000, push Mbox, push digit 1, and nothing happens. It is a call pilot 100 ver. 2.0 s/w. Anyone have other info. on setting password expirey to 0 in COS. Thanks.

DTones

In the CallPilot, in order to change or modify the class of service, you must log in through the unified manager ( using a cross over cable connected to your computer).

After you log in to the CallPilot, remembering to change the IP address of your computer to match the IP range of the CP, you can go to Mailboxes, then Class of Service and modify the setting for password expire to 0 (never change) if you want the users to never have to change their password. You could also modify it be a set number of days if preferred (example 30 or 90 days etc.)

I agree with skippy. I am not familiar with Dtone’s method. I have always changed it through the browser. You just connect to the CP through a network connection, and use internet explorer (or any http browser) to make your changes. If you are unfamiliar with the connection procedure, it is outlined in the FAQ’s…
faq799-4752

One other thing. Once you connect to the CP you can change it's IP to your customers private network, and connect it to their local switch. Then you have quick access when you come back onsite. It also allows the customer to make changes more easily if you want them to have the ability. Since CP came out, I do all customer changes, recordings, and config via the browser.
