How do you setup a CR8 to prompt the user automatically when the user clicks on a report ( .rpt file)

and. . . is there a setting that I can disable to only show users the preview tad. Users should not be able to modify reports.

thanks

What I think you are trying to achieve here is to set your system to know to use Crystal Viewer to run a .rpt report. Actually you need to compile the reports so they produce the other two additional files with the same file names but with the new extensions of .crf and .exe. Then make sure you have those two addtional files in the same folder as .rpt . Then the user can use the .exe to run the report in Viewer and not be able to touch the code only run the report. The .exe is the executable compiled version of the .rpt

I have not compiled a .rpt file before. So, can you direct me to a site that have this information, or give me a little hint on how to do it.

thanks

I believe you need at least the Professional version of v8.5 in order to compile the report. You bring up the report you want to compile to a .exe. Go to report at top menu then to compile report. if you do not have the compile ability in your version then you will not see it listed in the menu. This will create the files yourfilename.exe and yourfilename.crf. These two files have to be in the same folder as yourfilename.rpt in order to function properly. Mark
