I have a proliant 800 server that wont boot into smartstart. It was running fine untill I tried to rebuild it now it just says non system disk even though smartstart is in cd drive. Is there a way to get into the bios on a proliant to check boot order??

Hit the F10 key when you see the blinking rectangle in the upper right hand of the monitor.

Of course this will only work if you have the system partition on the hard drive and the hard drive is operational.

The two hard drives are new drives so there will be no system partition any other ideas

The only other thought I had was that maybe you are using a newer SmartStart version than what was indended to be used with this system. If this is true, try using an older version.

I'd suggest creating a system erase disk from the smartstart cd on another machine or from the file on Compaq web site.

Run this and it should set system back to defaults, one of which is to boot from CD.

Oh, the system erase will work on any system but you can only build your system from SmartStart 4.x or 5.x.

If you have replaced the original cdrom drive, try replacing the CD drive with an older model.

I had this exact issue when I swapped out my cd-drive with a more recent dvd/cd 40X model.

I eneded up installing the old, slow cdrom drive so I could boot from the smartstart cd, installed the utilities to the hard drive, then installed the newer cdrom drive. I can boot most bootable cd/dvd media, but not the smartstart media.
