i have 5 hard driver and raid5 without spare,
now one of the harddriver is faild,it need replace.
my question is how do i know if i can hot plugged or not?
and is the replace hard driver must same as the failed one?
need step by step instruction.

thanks

Yes you can probably change the drive hot, and as long as the replacement drive is the same size or bigger it shouldnt be a problem, but any extra capacity (above the size of the smallest disk in the group) will be wasted.

To try and find a manual on your RAID controller (assuming its a Compaq one) go to and put the name of the controller e.g "smart-2dh" into the search field.

Check the original drive for SCSI2, SCSI3, wide-ultra, etc. SCSI2 and 3 have similar slots but are different from the older wide-ultra hot-plug drives.
