Why can't my Proliant 1600 see the IDE controler? There is an embeded IDE controller on the main board but the Computer can't see it. We are running Windows 2000 professional. The result is that the cd is invisible. Where are we going wrong?

Is the IDE port enabled? Check in SmartStart and ensure it is. Failing things like a dodgy IDE cable, no power to the CD drive etc... I would check this forst. -----------------------------------------------------

We've been working with a Compaq 1600 with a similar problem. Run the system erase,, and then it won't boot from CD. Would be interested in a fix rather than running the system configuration from floppy.
