i have a projector and a dell laptop
the laptop has a vga output, and the projector has a video inoput
sounds good right
except for the projector to work, i need to enable dual monitors, and the projector is a second monitor, not the screen i am looking at

how do i get the projector to see what is on my screen, rather then creating a new screen

thanks

by the way, i cant talk to dell unless i gove them money
and its not even a tough type of question

Who make the vid chipset in your lappy. It should be a case of enabling 'clone' mode in advanced display properties (that's ATI speak, but should be something similar with other manufacturers) Then you'll see what's on your #1 monitor. What happens if you don't enable 'Extended Desktop' but switch on 2nd monitor anyway?

Go ahead and plug the 15 pin vga cable from the projector into the back of the laptop, hold down the FN key and press F3. If it works, Great! But at least try it.

Even the 2mb video card in my laptop drives external monitors that way no problem, without the need to enable dual monitors.

I'm with Norty303, What kind of video chipset is in it?

If it's a geforce chipset, try right clicking the desktop, select properties, then click the settings tab. There will be an "advanced" button toward the bottom of that window. Click that, then select "nview" in the new window that pops up. Options for display should be in here..or close by.
Make sure to press "OK" after making changes here instead of just closing the window.

The machine I'm looking at right now does not have nearly the same options I have on my home system, but I'm sure it's something similar.

its a dell dimension with an ati video card
somehow i got it to work
went to display properties , advanced and there are 3 box like things for monitor, television and something( i am not in front of it right now)

so i ended up having 2 turned on and it partially works
except the entire screen doesnt show
some of the bottom, the tool bar and then some, dont appear

as i sit here typing this, i think it might be a setting within the advanced box to control the output of the device

but then i would have to get up, turn it on, blah blah blah...
