Okay - I have a project plan, all beautifully populated with resources and tasks. In Project I like to split the screen and have Task Sheet on top and Resource Usage down below; this lets me then select a user and see their demand and capacity.

Is there a decent viewer that will let me do this? It's quite crucial that I am able to select one or more resource to see their usage.

Alternatively, I would like to be able to have "resource sheet" on top and "resource usage" at the bottom.

I'm afraid I don't follow. Are you looking for a product which will allow you to view a Project file outside of Project? If so, a search for "Project Viewers" will turn up several. If however, you want to view all resources in the Resource usage view, then a split screen will not show you what you need. A split screen shows information in the lower pane based upon what you have selected in the upper pane. If you select a task in the task sheet - you'll see the Resource usage for resources assigned to that task. If you want the full Resource Usage - show a new window of the file then arrange the windows and switch the views as needed.

Hi Julie

sorry - I didn't make myself totally clear. I use MS Project and can split screen and see exactly what I need, but I have colleagues who don't have MS Project and rather than pay for additional licences, I would like a Project Viewer that does what I need. I have downloaded 5 or 6 different viewers and can't find any that are suitable, so:

- the viewer needs to show split screen
- top half being task view or resource sheet
- bottom half resource usage
- selecting one or more resources in the top displays their usage in the bottom

thanks
Scott

Ah, I see. I'm afraid I can't be of much assistance - I don't have in-depth knowledge of the viewers available on the market. The best I can suggest is doing what you are already doing - download and try.

Hi Scott,

I have some bad news for you. I also was looking for a viewer since we too also have users without Project. IF you don't have Project server, there isn't a stand alone viewer out there that my IT or myself could locate. If you do find one, can you please post it so others can use it too.

Mike

Hi Mike,
You were unable to find any Project viewers or just ones that met your criteria?
