I’m looking for a project management system that will support a specific
workflow. The project is more like a job or task and has contacts
associated with it.

The following is the is the workflow the system should support:

1. Create the task (project) and map it to the contact who made the
request
2. Add contacts who can potentially complete the task
3. Schedule the date and time for the task to be performed
4. Close the task

Please send me a name or a list of names of software programs that will
support this workflow. Preferably it will integrate with a MSSQL database.

This isn't anything to do with project management. Most people would use a spreadsheet for this kind of simple work allocation task.

Seems the link should be smartsheet singular not sheets plural.

In my mind, big problem with all these PM tools is that as soon as anyone gets their hands on such a tool, they think that's it and now they're project managers.

(I think I posted elsewhere that having (say) MS Project makes you no more a Project Manager than having MS Word makes you Shakespeare.)

You know what, this almost sounds more like something that a bug tracking system could accomplish. Think about it:

1. Create the task (project) and map it to the contact who made the request.
- Create bug in bug tracking system. most of them automatically include some reference to the creator.

2. Add contacts who can potentially complete the task
- Most BTS's can only assign to a single person, is that the desired result?

3. Schedule the date and time for the task to be performed
- Included

4. Close the task
- Close the bug.

If you are intrigued by this check out Bugzilla or Trac. Trac is a Project Management software in its own right with built in issue tracking system (not to mention wiki). Both of these are web based and designed to run on a linux server.

Hope that helps.

I agree with gogo809 : bug tracking system seems appropriate.

I recommand Mantis BT, for having used it many times.
