Proj 2000 + Office 2000 wont work together

We need help with using MS Project 2000 and Office 2000 together.

After Project is installed Office will not execute as the installer file in Project seems overwrite what is there already. once project is uninstalled Office can execute again.

How can this be sorted? It's happened on a few machines on different platforms. Is this a known problem?
