programs shut down

Hi everybody,

I am working on a gateway running xp home. The problem I am having is that certain programs shut down as soon as they open. For instance if I try to run msconfig the window will close a second or two after it opens. I have run a virus scan and came up empty. I have also run stinger and it found the w32/Nachi.worm. Stinger removed it but I am still having the same problems of only certain programs shutting down.
Anybody have any ideas?

Problem is resolved. Turns out they had another virus on the machine.
