I have a new Dell 9400 Inspiron running XP Pro SP2. I have Office Pro 2007 and Front Page 2002 installed. Both are working fine. In Windows Explorer, I am trying to open an html and/or htm file with FrontPage. When I highlight and right click the file and select "open with", Front Page is not listed in the avalable programs. It is not listed in the "choose programs" list. When I click the "Browse" button to look for the program I cannot find where to launch FrontPage so I can associate it. I navigated to Front Page under programs, but can't find anything inside the folder to associate with.

How can I associate this type of file with FrontPage? AND, how can I add FrontPage to the "Open With" list in Windows Explorer?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

If you right click on the icon in the start menu for front page and click on properties the target box will show you where the .exe file for front page is located.

Navigate to this through the open with... dialog and viola! You've done it!!

Make sure to check the 'Make this the default program....' checkbox if you want all web pages on your hard drive to open with front page.

But if you have any sense you'll get rid of FrontPage and go for Dreamweaver, its so much better!!!!! (Or is that just me)

I don't know if I would change the association for these types of files. Normally they will open with your browser and that is what you want. My FrontPage (XP) is located at:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\FrontPG.Exe if that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I had already tried that. When I right click, the properties target box does give the path to the .exe. All it says is "Front Page 2000" and it is greyed out. The "find Target" button is also greyed out, so can't try that. I eventually tried to use the icon shortcut to try and associate it. But it didn't work. When I try and link it, I get a message that "This is not a valid win32 app". An icon for the Front page icon appeared in the "choose program" list, but it gives me the above invalid win32 app message. Now, I can't get rid of that icon from the list. No big deal.. but It would be good to know how to get rid of icons from that list. Is that possible?

P.S. I use both Dreamweaver and FP. I find one is better at some things than the other, so I use both.

Thanks Rural Guy. That is what I needed. What I do is, if I want to open the file with the browser, I just double click. If I want to edit it, I right click and choose Front Page in the "Open with" section.

Thanks.

When You right click and choose open with, you are given a few "Recommended programs" and also can "choose" other programs. Do you know how to remove an item from this "Other Programs' list? Is it in the registry somewhere when I can eliminate the item?

Thanks again for your help. Solved my problem.
