I am new to the Norstar MIC and Call Pilot 150 that I am installing. I have programmed Norstars before, but it was many years ago. Since I have extensive menus and directories, I would like to program both systems in my office, and then power down an hour before the install.
Will the two systems retain their programming?
My primary concern is the Call Pilot.

it 'should' ...but still better take a backup just in case

I would be sure to have that backed up. Loss of programming information will depend on how long you are powered down

I will try to back it up on my PC, sharing the same network. My laptop is old and hasn't enough memory (docs say I could need up to 85 MB).

Does it matter if I don't connect the Call Pilot to the ksu station ports, beforehand, just for programming?

you cannot program the CP without being connected to the KSU ports ...if thats ur question

but you can program the KSU without the CP

That was my question. Thanks!

One more bit of confusion- The Nortel docs say to power up the ksu after making sure all wiring is done, but also warns not to plug in the co lines cable before powering up. This sounds like a contradiction.

Does this mean to have the stations wired and plugged into the ksu, but not to plug in the trunk cable until after the ksu is powered up?

thats the ideal case ...
you wire the system completely ...power on the system ... cross connect the CO lines
