in my field (Web Programming) current if you are taking the microsoft path, it's ASP (Active Server Pages), VB (Visual Basic) ActiveX knowledge, thats kind of about it, others to take into consideration would be Java, PHP, etc into consideration. That is if you are considering internet/web programming. If desktop programming, My personal favorites are C++, Delphi and Visual Basic
