We have a Partner 6 and since we had the system programmed, we have had to replace some phones, which the extensions no longer work. How do I program the new phones with their extensions?
Hi wggrass,
The programming is on the switch. The extension numbers will not change. What do you mean by "the extensions no longer work"?
You can change the phone type and the phone will still work. The buttons may not "map" properly but they can be programmed very easily. The instructions are in the phone user's manual. That information can be downloaded from Avaya's web site at support.avaya.com
Just search for your system and download the *.PDF.

Thank you! I will go the website and see if I can figure it out. I purchased the CD user guide but I didn't see where to program the individual extensions. I'll let you know.
Hi wggrass,
Sometimes the easiest way to program extensions is to go to the phone and do it there. Press Feature-0-0. The phone will beep and the lights flash. Press the button you want to program and enter the ext# (left int button + ext#) or the feature (feature button + feature code) or number (just punch it in) you want. On to the next button. Feature-0-0 to exit, or just lift & drop the handset.
System features are entered from ext 10 or 11. The CD has all the info. Just read it a few times to get comfortable. Don't worry about making a mistake, just redo to correct the error.

Don't forget to backup occasionally during programming.
Obviously, it's all a lot easier when programming from the remote administration software on a PC. Very worthwhile investment - both for ease of use, and for robust backups.
I know I am not the smartest person, but I couldn't find (on the Avaya website) anything about programing the extension number. I wanted to clarify that, too, because the last two responses made it clear that I wasn't clear. I need to know how to make a particular phone, extension 11. Another, extension 13, etc.
Thanks, in advance!
The extension numbers are hard coded into their physical location within the module and 2 or 5 slot carrier. There is no way to midify the dialing plan. Therefore, the first port will always be extension 10, the next 11, etc.
The only way to modify which phone is extension X is to physically connect that phone to extension port X.
Ok, that explains part of it. BUT, when a line is picked up elsewhere in the office (not at 10) it doesn't show up on the main phone (10). Why would that be? Extension 12 is the only thing that seems to be attached to a particular extension #.
You'll need to look at what is programmed under the button that you expect the lamp to light at. Just because the label indicates it's an autodial button for extension 14 or an appearance for line 3 doesn't mean the button is actually programmed for that to happen. In fact, if 6 button sets replaced 18 button sets, the button programming would have to be changed, as there would be no corresponding buttons to which the programming related. View each extensions' buttons under centralized extension programming at extension 10 or 11 with a display set.
Dial Feature 00 from ext 10. Press the button you would like to program, press the intercom button and dial either the x you want that button to go to or dial * and the ext you want that button to go to. Press the next button or Feature 00 ti get out{or for the novice, lift the handset and hang up}. Now you might ask, what's up with the *. When you press the button to call that person, if you programmed without the star, it will ring the phone. If you programmed with the *, it will send your voice through the speaker on the phone and you can do a personal page. As well, when the person is on the phone or do not disturb is enabled, the red lamp next to the button will turn red.
On station 10 press Feature 00 (zero zero)
Press the button you want to program
Press the left intercom button
Dial the extension number OR * and the extension number (see note)
Repeat as needed
Press Feature 00 to exit
Note: if you enter * extension, that button will voice announce when pushed, if only the extension number is entered without the star, it will ring instead of voice announce. Either will light when the extension is in use.
