Programming Certification

Hi Topcat01,

As great as Delphi is, there isn't that much in the way of certifications or even books. Walk into any book store and you'll find walls of VB.NET (which in my opinion is the closet to Delphi) and somewhere in a corner you'll find a handful of Delphi books.

I really don't see how a certification can beat real life experience. In my opinion, Delphi is simplistic enough to learn as you go. Just remember to spend time adopting good object-oriented programming techniques and you should always be OK.

Brain Bench is another. I joined back when it was free but never had the time to take any of the exams. I just looked to see if they were current with Delphi, but it looks like they quite staying current at D6. You'll find the price-list by entering "delphi" in their search box. Entering "CodeGear" found nothing.

IMO, the reason for certification is to put on your resumé.

I'll echo Roo's opinion regarding certification. If I was hiring a programmer, I want to see experience - not certification.

I agree entirely on experience over certification. The reason for finding a cert was for educational reasons.

I recently went on the ISEB Software Testing course, it wasn't language specific but was very informative - I would recommend this course.
