I wanted to know where i can obtain the software t be able to program an Iwatsu Adix phone system. I know there is a cable that connects to the serial port on a laptop but I can not connect to it. Is there a special package I must use or am i just setting up the session wrong?

there is a special serial DB9 to RJ45 called a fax15 that allows you to connect it to the serial port on a PC. Unless your PC is really new and doesn't have a serial port. Then you will need a USB adapter and the fax15.
Much of the programming can be done through the KT also. There is PC programming software available. It is different depending on which version of the software that you have. On the CPU card, there is a daughter board with a sticker on it.. it should read MEM X(M or L) and V X.XX.
The programmer varies widely. There are at least 8 versions of the DOS, and 4 versions of the Windows programmer. None are completely backwards forward compatible. The programmer is proprietary but available.
