Programming 2nd line on BCM200 to only ring certain phones at night.

Hello! I'm hoping there might be a way to accomplish what I have found incredibly easy to do in Asterisk but apparently impossible to do on a BCM200 Analog CLID trunk.

What I simply want to do is NOT wake up the wife at night with my inbound test calls on line 2.

Line 2 on the Analog CLID port is currently my MagicJack. This works perfectly for inbound and outbound dialing as setup as Line 2, and all our phones have Line 62 set as APR and RING. That way we can push the line button and dial or receive calls just like on our regular PSTN Line 1 on Line 61.

All I want to do is basically after 8pm each night have inbound Line 62 ONLY ring our 3 downstairs DN's 401,402, and 301 Then at 8AM the next morning have it continue to ring the entire house as normal all 11 DN's.

I've tried hunt groups, I've tried ring groups, I've tried even jumping a few answer dns. Seems to keep getting back to that if I want APR or APR & RNG to show on the phone at all then ringing service will NOT ring that phone period. It will work just fine if I remove line 62 from the phones completely and make the 3 phones members of a ring group, but then I have to hit intercom and dial the sub pool access number then dial... bah.

In asterisk I just setup the mj to ring in on an fxo port, then based on time had it fire at Line 2 (whole house line 62 on Nortel), or Line 3 (only the 3 downstairs nortel phones had mapping to APR & RNG for Line 63). That worked well for a long time. Newer builds of Asterisk force DTMF squelching now on ZAP channels in conference so now I need to put that MJ directly on the BCM.. BCM doesn't seem to pick up it's CallerID at all, but at least I can dial and send DTMF again through it.

What am I missing here in Nortel BCM land?

Thanks!

When you switch to another mode, say night mode, you are adding more extensions to the existing day pattern and not creating a seperate group.Sometimes I reverse the night and day, leave the system in night mode during the day and vice versa.Have the phones to ring in night mode and the only phone to ring in day mode.Night ring: 221 222 224 225 226Day ring:223 onlysince 223 rings in day mode it will also ring in night mode.

That would seem to work unless you want CALL Appearance and Ring it seems. If I just assign APR to the phone, then ring schedule it, then the phone lights up and shows the call, but no auditory ring. If I show APR & RING then well yes it rings ALWAYS no matter the schedule no matter the reversal of night/day.

I see your point however on the reversal. I'll try doing that and setup maybe custom schedule 5 and 6 the way you suggest and make them both active to see if it happens. Based on my other testing I'm still thinking as long as Line 62 is given line access to the SET it will ring no matter the schedule.

I think I can do what you are saying above but that will force me back to using the INTR button to make my calls on line62(line pool b). I just don't really want to do that. Also the inbound call would still show on the INTR line too and not quite what I want either.

I might just have rebuild my Asterisk server and create a custom stack that allows DTMF out through ZAP conference.

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for that last tip as well! That works very well as a compromise. In fact I used that bit of info to setup the line pool button of all the OTHER phones that need to ring only in the day time.

What worked out finally that I'm okay with is the following based on the info above and a small twist I got working.

4 sets downstairs that can ring night and day always for incoming line 62

Line Appearance only in Line Access for Line 62 - That gets me my named line button.
Ansr DN 223 set for each phone

5 sets around the rest of the house have Line 62 setup as Line Pool B Button and NO Line Access for Line 62

DN Set 223 is a defined phone record but not an Active DN Set with Line Access Ring and Appearance Set for Line 62 - So it gets the Ring signal always which then rings the 4 downstairs phones always for Line 62

Gives me best of both worlds there.

Setup DAY schedule for Auto from 0800 to 2000 with the DN's of the 5 "other" phones in a ring group.

That way they ring during the day as well as the phones that always ring due to DN223 set to ring always. The 5 other phones still ring in on INTR line but the text still says MagicJK since it's triggered off of Line 62 ring group.

Too bad Nortel did Ringing Service with Ring Groups as an adjunct to dialing rather than explicit dialing. Sometimes it is the simple things that are complicated.

Thanks for all the help. I can live with this setup and so can the wife!
