hi there,

One of our developers uses Query Analyzer alot and only logs off about once per week.

If I look under Processes in Enterprise Manager, it still shows a few of his processes from 3 days ago: SELECT INTO.. for example with Last Batch date of 3 days ago.

Just wondering: Can these old processes hanging around cause performance problems ?? Would they go away if he simply closed and reopened Query Analyzer?

Thanks,
John

Shouldn't cause problems - unless he has created temp tables which still be taking up room in tempdb.
Yes they will go away if he closes the query analyser window - and you should tell him to.
You can also just kill the spid.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

thanks nigelrivett,

And that's exactly what happened. Today tempdb was 16 GB leaving only 45 MB free on that drive ! His stuff does create temp tables.

So it sounds like having him close the Q-A window each day is the solution. Thank you.
