i would like to setup my own forum and i know how to write it but i noticed there are kits out there that i can simply buy and plug into my website. does it worth it to spend hours and hours to write or should i just buy one?

thanks for any advise on this,

mike

My theory is unless you're going to try and market it or make a big site like TT, why reinvent the wheel. I use snitz forums on the sites I setup. It's asp based and pretty flexable and free. a lot of people use phpbb which is obviously php based and free as well.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

if your traffic is low, userbase is small, and don't need high tech features, its fun to make your own if you never have. once you get the base of it down, you can keep adding and refining as you have time. I've never really needed a furum, so have only made up my own for fun.
