hi,
my son has 2 apps that starts when you turn the computer on. these apps are not in the startup folder or in the start/msconfig. one is A.I.M. and one is yahoo. is there anyway to kill these apps when the pc starts?
thanks.

Are you sure they aren't reported by msconfig ?
I suspect they should be under the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run registry key.

Hope This Helps, PH.

With programs like those it is best to go into their options and un-check the automatically start boxes because even if you remove them in the manner PHV suggested...they sometimes add themselves back.

thanks phv and dm.
i checked msconfig. they're not there in startup. i just don't know how they start themseleves. i probably need to write a script to kill these two processes when logon occurs.

Pointing you back to dm4ever's post:

For example with Yahoo messenger...

Open yahoo messenger...unfortunately you need to login first >> Select "Messenger" from the menu options on top >> select "Preferences" >> Click "General" on right hand corner >> on the left hand side you'll see a check box "Automatically start Yahoo! Messenger." >> uncheck >> press "OK" >> Right click on the little messenger icon in the system tray and select "Exit"
