Hello everyone,

We have 3 like computers all with windows 2000. We installed a program on all 3 computers, the program only works on 1 computer. We are perplexed as to why that is, since all 3 computers have the same programs on them. Can anyone tell us what could be wrong.

thanks

Hi Tati,

This problem would be hard to diagnose without knowing WHICH program specifically. Even then, without knowing the hardware/software diffs between the machines- it would be a longshot.

To begin with, note any difference between the Win2k installations- Are they all updated to the same level? Perhaps the one that the program is on is an SP-1 installation and the others are not. Also, There have been two (I think) compatability updates- perhaps one has them and the others don't. Look at Internet Explorer's pkg level as well.

Secondly, is there software running in the background that is causinng the program to fail (or to work)?

What about differences in the method of installation? Perhaps one was installed by an Administrator, while the other two were installed by a SuperUser... or one was installed custom while the others were installed normal?

Hardware can be an issue too, depending on what the software does- if it is a fax program and the modems are different... see?

It would probably be a good idea to visit the software's site for FAQs or support to determine if there are known issues
