Guys,

I am trying to install a program on WinNT workstation with SP6 on it. When I try to run ex. SETUP.EXE I am getting an error after it is 80% complete. I think some files are missing from the install set. I think there is a DOS switch I can use to determine what files are missing from the install set. I would like to run the setup.exe from the DOS prompt with the switch to find out what is missing? I would appreciate if someone can tell me what switch I can use in this situation.

Thanks,

Mav

What is the program that you are installing ?
Have you contacted the vendor of the software ?
Is there an FAQ area on their website covering this error ?

I'm not aware of a DOS switch, but that doesnt mean to say that there isnt one! However, if a file is missing, the vendor needs to know either way!

PateH2,

Thanks for your response.

80% in install I am getting the following error:

"GLBSSTUB caused a general protection error in module KRNL386.EXE at 0001:1E2E".

After doing little more research I found out that the install set for the application (16 bit VB application) was prepared using Windows Installer software designed by Great Lakes Business Solutions hence the name GLBSSTUB. This company is no longer in business ( I think it is bought by Microsoft) hence I cannot seek any help from the vendor. I think that it is trying to use the same memory address (cause error is caused in module KRNL386.EXE) already used by some other program running on NT or 2000 machine during the install. Since, I can not find, which other program is using the same memory address only think I can do at this moment is to somehow clean the memory by stopping all other programs using ctl-alt-del and end process. Delete all temp files and try to install the application again.

Let me know if you can think of something else? Another possibility is that some of the 16-bit DLL’s are not able to self-register at the end of the install ( just a guess). Also, my suspicion of install set missing any files does not hold ground cause I have used same setup.exe (only file available to install the application) to install this application on at least 70 other PC’s without any problem. It seems like there is some software on these new PC’s, which is using the same memory address used by setup.exe. Let me know if you guys have any idea to work around this problem.

Thanks,

Mav

There's more information on the GLBSSTUB error in the Win2k area. Check for a topic named 'GLBSSTUB general protection fault - Win 2000 Error'.
